The Birth of Christopher Michael

Twenty years ago today I became a mother for the very first time.

Originally I had planned to come here and write out a beautiful birth story for him, but the reality is that his birth wasn’t beautiful.

There were a lot of things that happened that affected me for a long long time.

There are literally millions of places online where you can read the horrors of bad birth stories, but this isn’t going to be one of them.

Because listening to horror stories and watching dramatic tv shows contributed to the experience I had.

I’m not going to be another one of those.

Instead, I’m going to tell you that my baby was born on Halloween, during a snow storm, in WA state. When the doctor said “It’s a boy!” I said, “It is?” because I was CONVINCED I was having a girl. He was 8 lbs, 11 oz. of adorable chubby baby, and I was in love like I’d never been before.

His birth taught me that I can do anything I put my mind to. It taught me that when things don’t go as planned, sometimes the end result can still be good.

I’d like to say that his birth taught me to let go of some of my control issues, but the reality is that I am still a work in progress.

I was a single mom for his first four years. He was my right hand man, my heart, and the one little person who always reminded me what love is truly about.

Today, he’s a full grown adult, with a life of his own.

There have been many ups and downs in the last 20 years.

I’m so proud of the man he is still growing into being.

Parenting is the hardest job I’ve ever had.

It’s also the most rewarding.

I’m so very very glad I got to be his mom.

Happy Boo Day Biggest!
